Watercolor balloons

Just a little watercolor that  I did to go with a birthday package I sent off to my friend in Berkeley.  Tomorrow, I'll post a picture of the other thing that went in this birthday package :)

Pumpkin Loaf

Look at that adorable cavy face :3

I'm pet-sitting N's guinea pig, Pumpkin, this week, and I made him an unwilling participant in a little photo shoot.  This was the best shot out of the bunch and even still a little blurry because he moved.  I had to bribe him with some parsley but not entirely successfully either.

Otherwise, he's really sweet, and I love it when he falls asleep in my lap, so cute!

I like to call Pumpkin a loaf because his little feet are hidden underneath and he just looks like a giant scrunchy ball sometimes.  He's an animal loaf!

Some funny things

Some funny things I captured from my camera phone:

..This bell pepper from my lunch that's shaped like a 3. (Maybe I'm the only one that finds this funny)

..This bird taking shelter from the rainy weather inside our building, and no one around me seemed to have noticed or cared.

..This pretty (stray) kitty that I've seen a few times on our street, so friendly! She might not be a stray considering how good she looks, but no collar :(

One of my neighbors, a nice old Chinese man, told me that when he takes his walks in the afternoon, the kitty likes to follow him around.  Isn't that so sweet?

Funny Sightings

Just a few funny signs that I've seen around. Thank goodness for camera phones, regardless of their quality, they are quite handy.

We get a lot of stuff that is temperature sensitive, so most shippers go the route of big words that say KEEP FROZEN.  Sometimes a snowflake picture shows up, but this is my favorite 'keep frozen' label.  What a dapper little guy.

Looks like a normal 'no smoking' sign..until you get up close and read the fine print.

I did a double-take the first time I saw this sign.  Apparently, our lab manager has a sense of humor.

Chocolate covered pretzels

I made these pretty and delicious chocolate covered pretzels over the holiday break (a while ago, I know) to give out as little treats.  They were super easy, just sourdough pretzels and melted chocolate, then add various toppings to your liking.  I made butterfinger, cinnamon sugar, and oreo here.  And to finish it off, add a drizzle of melted chocolate across the top.  People were hovering over me to see if I had brought these to share at work, and they were promptly snatched up.

I don't know why, but Blogger got it in its head that these images should be portrait.. but they are clearly landscape on my computer.  Oh well :)

Afternoon in Del Mar

Del Mar is such a pretty little beach town, it's so quaint.  Boyfriend and I spent a little time walking around after I hosted an Art club event in the morning.

We had lunch at Zel's which has this cute little patio out front so you can sit outside and enjoy the awesome San Diego weather.

We also walked down to the beach and just generally soaked up the sunshine and admired the scenery :)

I made a nerdy video!

Happy Pi Day!   Ï€

I made a video for my immunology class!  Watch and maybe learn something :)

As I've said before, I love crafts+science.

Some background: Macrophages are one of the early defenders against infection in your body.  They phagocytose (or eat up) bacteria and pathogens that they find, like if you get a cut.  When the macrophage realize that your body is harboring foreign fugitives, it does its best to sound the alarm to the rest of your immune system by producing inflammatory cytokines.

Too funny

found at A Cup of Jo via Pleated Jeans

I love this.  This pretty much perfectly describes extroverts and introverts.  I remember in high school my English teacher made us take the Myers-Briggs test, and she said it was normal for most people to score sort of half and half between different categories.  And then she said how unusual it was for people to score solidly in one or the other.  I was that one.  I believe I was quite solidly ISTJ, haha.

What has 8 arms and is super cute? This guy!

Heh, I love this little guy with the little pink cheeks.  I usually make up the pattern as I go since it's so quick and basic, but I might be persuaded to write up a proper one here ;)  This is a quick one hour or less pattern so I love to make these while I'm watching my TV shows.

Incidentally, a fun fact about me and octopi: boyfriend and I have a thing about octopi.  I showed him this video about octopi, then we saw an octopus at the Birch aquarium, and his first proper amigurumi was an octopus (part of his Christmas gift to me).
